What Is Guild of Guardians (GOG)?

What Is Gog

Guild of Guardians is a free play-to-earn (P2E) RPG (role-playing game) and fantasy game built on the Immutable X network,  slated for release in 2023. In this article, we’ll look at what is GOG and its game.

GOG aims to create an open-world gaming economy where gamers can earn and trade assets with real value while playing the games they love. The game involves engaging in challenges and training a team of heroes to collect resources.

How Does Guild of Guardians Work?

What Is Gog O

So, what is GOG, and how does it work?

Guild of Guardians grants players from all over the world the opportunity to earn assets with real-world value while competing against each other. The assets and rewards players accumulate in this game, such as NFTs and tokens, are tracked on a blockchain. Guild of Guardians will launch on the Android and iOS mobile platforms.

Play-To-Earn Mechanics

So, what is GOG's gameplay like? "Diablo" and "Dungeons and Dragons" are fantasy game classics that inspired the gameplay of Guild of Guardians.

Guild of Guardians is built around the play-to-earn model that's been gaining steam and causing a major paradigm shift in the gaming industry. So, how does Guild of Guardians work, and how can players earn money by playing the game?

Instead of utilizing the notoriously profitable pay-to-win model, GOG utilizes something that can be thought of as the opposite of this—Play-to-earn. Guild of Guardians rewards players' participation in the game and ecosystem as a whole with its native in-game currency and native token.

Immutable X

So, about GOG's technology—the developers aim to make it accessible on iOS and Android devices. They are using Immutable X, an Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution, to improve the user experience and Ethereum scalability.

Apart from improving users' experience, this technology also makes the game super fast and "gas-free, meaning game assets can be traded for free. With Immutable X technology, players can make purchases of NFTs and in-game items very seamlessly, with little interaction with the underlying blockchain network.

Where Is GOG Used?

GOG or Gems is primarily meant for trade within the fantasy RPG. The ERC-20 token is also used in the Guild of Guardians ecosystem for governance purposes and to reward players and creators for their contributions to the game.

Regulating the Economy

GOG tokens, also known as Gems, will play an essential role in protecting and regulating the economy from many things. Gems are required to carry out the majority of the trading in the games since players need them to mint NFTs and receive their rewards while playing the game. This way, organic demand for the in-game currency is created, ensuring that the game can have a stable, well-functioning economy.

Governance

Players participate in decisions that affect the whole gaming ecosystem using GOG tokens. With GOG tokens, players can have a say in the decisions that will affect the game and ecosystem. For any vote or decision to be accepted as valid, the minimum requirement is that it must get at least 80% acceptance by the players.

Staking

Players involved in active staking and other in-game participation in Guild of Guardians receive their rewards in gems. The amount of reward earned is not specific. It depends on the GOG price, the amount of GOG tokens a player stakes, and their overall game contribution.

Guild of Guardians Founders & History

Guild of Guardians is being developed by Ukrainian game development studio, Stepico Games, and will be published by Immutable X. The idea of creating Guild of Guardians was initially conceived in 2020, but that year was spent on making the initial design, development planning, and strategy.

The team behind Guild of Guardians got committed in 2021, and they first publicly announced Guild of Guardians in March 2021.

According to information from their whitepaper, Guild of Guardians has achieved some quite notable milestones within just its first year of launch. It has raised over $4.6 million in NFT sales, has over 140 thousand email pre-registration, and has over 150 thousand community members.

The Guild of Guardians team comprises more than 20 professionals, including designers, developers, and other full-time professionals.

Guild of Guardians Tokenomics

GOG tokens have a maximum supply of about 1 billion tokens. The token's circulating total supply is pegged at 33.5 million tokens by coinmarketcap. About 35% of the total supply of tokens is used for player rewards, and only 6% is allocated to public sales. The development team of Guild of Guardians will receive about 20% of the token's total supply.

Guild of Guardian's Competition and How It Fares

What Is Gog Ok

According to a report from Newzoo, mobile gaming as of 2022 is growing at a rate that is 2.5 times faster than PC gaming. This majorly comes from the fact that mobile gaming is highly accessible to most people, so more and more companies are entering the mobile gaming industry.

Now, asides the general competition in the RPG sector, Guild of Guardians faces competition from other blockchain games as well. Illuvium is a multiplayer RPG game that is presently in closed beta testing and has brought in about $72 million selling its digital lands. Phantom Galaxies, another upcoming blockchain game, is an RPG that has scheduled its early access launch in Q4 of 2022 with about $19.3 million in NFT sales. Meanwhile, Guild of Guardians was reported to have generated about $5.3 million from NFT sales as of last year. Guild of Guardians currently has over 15,000 pre-registers and has given away $1 million worth of prizes.

Both Illuvium and Phantom Galaxies are not entirely free-to-play. Illuvium offers only a basic gaming experience to users who are playing for free, while Phantom Galaxies mandates that a player purchase an avatar in order to play. Guild of Guardians, on the other hand, is entirely free to play—a feature which is highly likely to contribute to player base growth in no small part.

Guild of Guardian's Partnerships & Investors

The Sandbox

In 2021, Guild of Guardians entered into a partnership with metaverse platform The Sandbox, which was aimed at enabling players to use certain Guild of Guardians characters across both game universes.

Ubisoft

Guild of Guardians announced in 2021 that they had been selected for the exclusive Ubisoft Entrepreneurs Lab Season Six program. This meant that they would receive intensive and personalized support from the Ubisoft team to make Guild of Guardians the world's first mainstream blockchain game.

Funding

Guild of Guardians has raised $5.3 million in funding so far, according to Crunchbase. This happened over two funding rounds. The game lists Yield Guild Games and Double Peak Group as investors.

Guild of Guardian's SWOT Analysis

Guild of Guardian's Strengths

While most blockchain games are focused on building their games on the web, Guild of Guardians aims to tackle the largely untapped mobile blockchain gaming segment first. Additionally, it enforces the use of its tokens for purchases within the game. This could greatly contribute to creating organic demand for GOG.

Guild of Guardian's Weaknesses

The play-to-earn mechanics that Guild of Guardians employs is often criticized for being centered more on the earning side than the fun side. This could mean the game might not be much fun for players seeking strictly entertainment.

Guild of Guardian's Opportunities

So, About GOG's opportunities. Guild of Guardians does not use a PVP (Player Versus Player) gameplay model, which most blockchain games use. Instead, when it is launched fully in the second half of 2022, it will use a PVE (Player Versus Environment) type of gameplay. The opportunity that is offered by this type of gameplay is that it attracts users that do not like the overly aggressive and competitive nature of PVP games.

Guild of Guardian's Threats

A market downturn is the major threat faced by Guild of Guardians and most other cryptocurrency games. In an unfavorable market, a P2E game's token and assets might lose value, leading players (especially those motivated to play only by financial incentives) to lose interest in the game and stop playing. This could significantly reduce the number of active players and make the game less engaging for other players. This has already been observed with popular P2E games like Axie Infinity. Also, the future of the blockchain gaming industry, despite looking promising, is still uncertain.

Guild of Guardian's Roadmap

What Is Gog Okx

So, what is GOG's plan for the future?

According to information in their whitepaper, they crafted a roadmap that runs from Q1 of 2022 to Q2 of 2023. The first half of 2022 was when the pre-alpha demo of Guild of Guardians was run for a limited period. The second half of 2022 is when the alpha-testnet will run for an indeterminate period, depending on how their systems respond to players. The first and second half of 2023 is when the beta mainnet and major release will be launched.

Guild of Guardian's Updates, News, and Highlights.

GOG x SANDBOX Faction Challenge

Guild of Guardians announced on Feb. 24, 2022, that it had launched a challenge for players that was "built by the community, for the community." To participate in this faction challenge, players will need access to: a personal computer (Windows), the Metamask browser extension (browsers can are permissible, but Chrome is ideal for this), the internet, a web browser, a Sandbox account, and Gamemaker (a game development engine).

In addition to strengthening the community, this challenge aims to make Guardians apprentices experience an early version of the game. This challenge wasn't based on the official gameplay of Guild of Guardians; instead, they used Sandbox, Gamemaker, and Metamask to create a replica. The official full testnet release of Guild of Guardians games is said to be in the second half of 2022.

GOG x SANDBOX Faction Challenge 2.0

On June 9, 2022, Guild of Guardians announced on their Medium channel that players would be participating in another similar challenge to the first faction challenge. According to the announcement, some new changes were made, including the inclusion of macOS users in the challenge.

Just like the first faction challenge, players will need the following to participate in the second faction challenge: Access to a macOS or Windows computer, a Metamask wallet, access to a browser, an internet connection, a Sandbox account, and the Gamemaker engine.

Players must attach photos of detailed steps and levels they passed through while playing the game to get rewarded for the task carried out in the challenge. Players who perform exceptionally well have the chance of winning about 5 thousand GOG tokens.

Guild of Guardians Heroes

A primary element in Guild of Guardian's gameplay is Heroes. Heroes are unique characters used by players to complete challenges in Guild of Guardian's dungeons, defeat monsters, and earn rewards. Heroes possess different traits which are tailored to popular gamer playstyles.

Faction is a category of heroes' traits that determines the general type of hero, whether empire, glade, or horde. To add a layer of strategy to the game, Guild of Guardians allows heroes of different factions to access some respective drop tables. Also, a monster's strengths and weaknesses in the game will depend on certain factions.

Classes are part of the heroes' traits that determine the kind of tool that each of the heroes uses. On the other hand, elements add strategic depth to the game by deciding what damage those with higher and weaker elements do. It follows a traditional elemental advantage system, including earth, fire, water, dark, and light.

Rarity is the last hero trait determinant that indicates a hero's relative power and scarcity level. In Guild of Guardians, the scarcity levels are not all the same, and the most powerful of them all is the "legendary" rarity. This doesn't mean that a particular hero has a perfect rarity; each has its weaknesses and strengths. This means that there are situations in the game where a hero that has a common rarity will have a better advantage than a hero that has a legendary rarity.

As with rarity, each hero in the game comes with two types of abilities, active and passive. Passive abilities give heroes the power to create synergy effects and buffs, while active abilities create ultimate actions such as healing an entire team.
