Following my previous post and some interactions in the comments, I believe more emphasis is needed. While buybacks are trending across DeFi and TradFi, it’s essential to distinguish signals from noise. Herding behavior, as studied in behavioral economics, can drive short-term activity, but popularity alone does not create intrinsic value. Investment decisions must remain grounded in fundamentals.
Buybacks aren’t just back, they're evolving into a capital allocation trend that mirrors what’s happening in global markets. The data below from @0xToolman shows: $625M+ deployed into buybacks YTD (across select tokens only) This excludes other major moves including @chainlink announcement of hundreds of millions in buybacks. In TradFi, the scale is staggering. US corporations have announced $983.6B in buybacks so far, with projections pointing to $1.1T by year-end. Goldman notes that nearly 85% of companies are now in the open window, and August is pacing to be one of the busiest months on record. While buybacks don’t always trigger immediate price retracements as seen with $Pump & $Jup at a combined –$18M they still influence relative market performance. A case in point: study $LINK versus its competitors, all at all-time lows.
