Solana's SIMD-0286 proposal highlights the inherent limitations of monolithic blockchains. In my view, monolithic chains are not a sustainable model.
Increasing the Compute Unit (CU) limit from 60 million to 100 million places greater demands on the CPU specifications for validators and RPC nodes, leading to higher operational costs.
As Solana's adoption grows, its architecture relies on vertically scaling the specifications of individual servers to maintain UX. This is not sustainable. As more users are onboarded, only a few entities will be able to keep up, exacerbating node centralization.
This is why a structure like Cardano's is more advantageous. It maintains a high degree of decentralization and security on the main chain while enabling parallel processing through off-chain solutions and Layer 2s.
Even today, Cardano's node specifications are far more reasonable compared to Solana's.
Over time, and with greater adoption, the limitations of the path Solana is taking will become increasingly apparent. The SIMD-0286 proposal is not a true "Improvement" but merely a temporary measure.
