In the lead up to my exhibition opening at @W1curates on 7 August, I’ll be sharing some of the key works featured in this retrospective ‘Digital Prophecy: From Canvas to Code’. The show looks back on seven years of my journey through cryptoart and Web3 and it'll set the stage for what’s coming next with #EXPOS3D. In many ways, it all began with EthGirl. Minted on 14 Dec 2019 this was my genesis NFT, a collaboration with the late, great @money_alotta. Inspired by Picasso’s Girl with Mandolin, EthGirl followed my 2018 #CryptoDisruption exhibition at Dundas St. Gallery in Edinburgh and became part of my early Crypto Cubism series. Eth symbols, Web3 icons and a pixelated Picasso come together in this oil painting/animation to capture the energy and uncertainty of a new digital frontier. It was a record breaking sale ending in a crazy, unforgettable auction war between Whaleshark and Moderats, who ultimately won with a bid of 70 ETH (around $10,000 back in the olden days when eth was about $140). But more importantly it lit a spark. It showed me, Alotta and the small group of artists in the space at the time that this new digital art space might actually offer creative freedom and a real chance to support yourself through it. There’s so much more to that moment. So many DMs, messages and posts that captured the energy of something special happening, even if we didn’t fully understand what it was yet. This was early.
