Today, we've released a Deep Dive report on ZetaChain. ZetaChain is a Universal L1 that connects natively to other blockchain networks, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, & more. ZetaChain Lightning slashes block times by 33%+, integrates Solana, TON, & more 👇
⚡️ Introducing ZetaChain Lightning The first step toward the fastest cross-chain UX with no compromises on decentralization. Here’s what we dropped 🧵
.@zetablockchain unites disparate chains, providing a unified environment where users interact with multiple ecosystems as if they were one. By enabling direct cross-chain smart contract capabilities, ZetaChain allows developers to build Universal Apps.
On average, $1B+ in crypto assets are bridged daily. Cross-chain interaction is often not user-friendly, requiring manual bridging, multiple transactions, & risk of error. ZetaChain’s proposition is to combine a L1 chain with built-in cross-chain smart contracts & messaging.
ZetaChain's architecture doesn't use wrapped tokens or external bridges, mitigating common security risks and enhancing UX. Every contract on ZetaChain can orchestrate actions across chains, and the network itself manages external assets via a decentralized custody mechanism.
ZetaChain uses Universal Smart Contracts, typically a Solidity contract on ZetaChain that inherits from a base like UniversalContract. It defines handlers (e.g., onCall) that the protocol invokes when an external call comes in.
ZetaChain’s approach treats a universal smart contract as a hub, with spokes out to various chains. Universal Apps are the end-user applications built on ZetaChain’s platform that leverage its cross-chain capabilities.
Universal Apps enable new concepts for developers to build out, including: - Cross-chain yield aggregator - Multi-collateral stablecoin backed by blue-chip assets across chains - Agent framework that automates functions across chains - Trade, lend & borrow RWAs across chains
ZetaChain Lightning is the protocol's first step toward achieving the fastest Cross-Chain Transactions (CCTX). Block times have been reduced from 6s to 4s, with 2s block times targeted.
ZetaChain Lightning expands the protocol's footprint to include Solana smart contracts, allowing users across chains to directly swap to Solana assets without having to switch networks.
Universal TON testnet support has also been added; users can now access Universal Apps from the TON wallet.
