This is an Alpha from #SuiRL This morning I listened to a speech by Walrus Boss @RJ_Simmonds. Many people might think it’s just a place to store data, but it’s far more than that ⬇️ The fact that Walrus can have a separate speech at SuiRL shows how important it is. First, why do we need Walrus $WAL? Currently, less than 10% of data is on-chain, while 90% is on centralized systems like AWS and Google, where users cannot fully control it or benefit from it. - Walrus is the data layer of Web3, responsible for creating trustworthy, usable, and programmable data. - Seal is the security layer of Walrus, providing data encryption and access control, with the mainnet launching in September (which I’ve always found mysterious). Rebecca mentioned that she really likes Taylor Swift, but she lost the rights to her first six albums (because of the lack of data autonomy). For example: If Taylor stored her albums on-chain, allowing creators to access them under specific conditions at certain times, and even revoke permissions at any time (Seal), it would enable flexible management of data ownership by creators (Walrus). "On Walrus, you can decide who can see, when they can see, and whether payment is required, etc." - Tusky @TuskyTools is the first-line application of Walrus and Seal, allowing users to easily upload files, share links, and set access rules using Seal, turning complex things into a simple APP. - Nautilus is something I learned about today, responsible for handling data computation and ensuring confidentiality, working in conjunction with Seal. These elements are interconnected.
