Before 2005, Apple's personal computers used the PowerPC architecture.
As products evolved, PowerPC became a performance bottleneck for Apple products.
In 2005, Apple chose to fully transition from PowerPC to Intel.
That year, Jobs said, "We are making one of the most important transitions in Apple's history," a moment that later became known as Apple's Intel moment! We all know how much prosperity Intel brought to the MAC ecosystem.
Today, when I saw the news that Aave is deploying on Aptos, my first reaction was that Aave's Intel moment is also coming.
Aave is the absolute leader in the DeFi space, but constrained by the performance ceiling of the EVM ecosystem. With stablecoins being so hot and the pie so big, if they stick to the EVM ecosystem, their own ceiling will soon be in sight.
Aptos is Aave's first deployment on a non-EVM chain, supporting native USDC, USDT, APT, and sUSDe. This is not just a simple multi-chain expansion; it is a landmark event recognizing traditional DeFi giants' acceptance of emerging high-performance public chains. Having followed Aptos for so long, here are a few of my thoughts:
1. High Performance and Security
Deploying an application of Aave's caliber across chains is like Apple setting its own strategy; it is a choice made with utmost rigor. As Aave's first stop, Aptos's security based on Move and its current impressive performance is the first key point.
2. The Prosperity of Stablecoins
Aave's timing in choosing Aptos is truly commendable. As of August this year, the total supply of stablecoins on Aptos has reached a historic high of 1.27 billion, with on-chain stablecoin transfer volume reaching 48.6 billion USD, ranking sixth among all L1 public chains. This market of liquidity cows is a guaranteed profit for Aave.
After Apple transitioned to Intel, it drove the prosperity of the entire Mac software ecosystem, with companies like Adobe and Microsoft starting to take the Mac platform seriously. Today, Aptos becomes Aave's first deployment on a non-EVM chain, and the historical flavor is indeed very similar. Aave's entry into Aptos, with performance in one hand and traffic in the other, will likely trigger a multi-chain awakening among other blue-chip DeFi protocols once they start to thrive.
We will wait and see!
