TON is like the socialist Soviet Union at the beginning of the millennium, led by the planning committee + seemingly open but actually closed ecosystem. Although developers can freely deploy applications, the projects that ultimately produce results always have official backgrounds, and all major projects are also officially led. Although internally it is bustling, it will take time for the external world to react.
A few days ago, I met with friends from the Ton Foundation offline in Beijing, and during our conversation, I updated my understanding of TON.
The biggest takeaway is that the information gap is much more severe than I imagined.
After the hype from the last wave of mini-games faded, they have actually been advancing globally very quickly, especially in the areas of DeFi and Sticker NFTs. However, there is almost no sound from the Chinese community.
Sticker NFTs have already become one of the most active asset forms on TON, with exaggerated trading volumes and user activity, yet no one here mentions it. Meanwhile, there are still many Web2 gaming companies or studios in China researching how to release TG mini-games and connecting with TON through some Web2 gaming exhibitions. They may not understand the rise and fall of the last wave of TG mini-games, but are trying a new growth path in the increasingly competitive Web2 environment.
There are indeed problems. TON is working hard, but it's difficult for TG to make significant updates and upgrades from a product perspective because the founder is very obsessed with the product form. This "minimalist aesthetic fundamentalism" has become its ceiling.
Additionally, the development team is very small, disproportionately small, just as I heard before. In this structure, it is more like an ecosystem that grows on the edge with Telegram as the interface, and many narratives were not prepared for us from the beginning.
In other words, the story of TON itself is not told for us. This might still be an opportunity.
