ETHERFI INITIATES PROACTIVE PROTOCOL PAUSE AMID KELP RSETH CONTAGION RISKS
In response to the recent security incident involving Kelp's rsETH, liquid restaking protocol EtherFi has implemented immediate, preventative risk management measures to isolate its ecosystem from potential cross-chain vulnerabilities.
1. Zero Direct Exposure:
EtherFi has officially clarified that its Liquid treasury holds no direct exposure to the Kelp rsETH vulnerability. The current actions are strictly precautionary to eliminate secondary attack vectors.
2. Suspension of LayerZero Infrastructure:
To prevent any potential cross-chain routing exploits, EtherFi has temporarily halted its LayerZero bridging functionalities for weETH and eETH.
3. Broad Operational Pause:
To ensure total protocol containment, the team has also paused the relevant Teller contracts. This effectively blocks the LayerZero OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) bridging paths, resulting in a temporary suspension of all deposit and withdrawal functions for their Liquid products (ETH, BTC, USD), sETHFI, and eBTC.
Halting cross-chain interoperability during an active, unresolved exploit in a adjacent protocol is a textbook standard for Web3 security. EtherFi is actively collaborating with security auditors to analyze the Kelp root cause and will resume operations once network safety is cryptographically verified.
