Germany seized $38 million in cryptocurrency from the eXch exchange linked to the Bybit hack

ChainCatcher News: Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Frankfurt's Main Prosecutor's Office announced on May 9 that they had seized 34 million euros (about $38 million) worth of cryptocurrencies from eXch, a cryptocurrency platform linked to the Bybit hack. The action, which involved multiple crypto assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dash, became the third-largest cryptocurrency seizure in BKA's history.

It is reported that eXch is alleged to have facilitated about $1.9 billion in cryptocurrency transfers since its operation in 2014 without implementing anti-money laundering measures, some of which are suspected of being "criminal sources", including assets stolen from the $1.4 billion hack on Bybit on February 21, 2025. Authorities also confiscated eXch's server infrastructure in Germany, which contained more than 8TB of data, and shut down the platform.
